Liverpool have missed out on an 11th-hour January transfer deadline day swoop for Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds were unable to get a deal over the line for the Fulham attacking midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were looking to recruit Carvalho before the window shut at 11pm this evening.

However, the move has collapsed as paperwork could not be completed in time.

As a result, he will remain at the Championship leaders for the rest of the season.

Carvalho, 19, has been in rampant form for the Cottagers this term, having scored seven goals and recorded four assists.

The England youth international is out of contract in the summer and looks set to to depart the west London outfit.

Liverpool were hoping to tie up a move so they could fend off any potential suitors who’ll be circling.

However, clubs across Europe who might be interested now have been handed the advantage in the race for the starlet’s signature.

Carvalho is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England.

Fulham would only receive a compensation fee and the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have been linked.

Given how far Liverpool got down the line with Carvalho, though, he may still have his heart set on Anfield regardless.

He’s watched his former Fulham under-18s team-mate flourish for the Reds and will be acutely aware first-team opportunities are there for him.
