Liverpool continue to monitor Villarreal's Arnaut Danjuma - although a swoop in the January transfer window has been ruled out.

The forward has thrived since joining the La Liga club during the summer.

Danjuma scored 17 goals in 37 appearances for Bournemouth as they suffered Championship play-off heartbreak.

That earned the Holland international a move to Villarreal for a reported fee of €25 million in August.

Danjuma, 25, has hit the ground running for Unai Emery's side.

He's recorded nine goals and three assists in 18 appearances, helping Villarreal reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool were first linked with Danjuma earlier this season.

With the Reds set to be without Mo Salah and Sadio Mane for a period as they head off to the African Cup of Nations next month, there are fears Jurgen Klopp will be short of quality in the forward areas.

But transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on Liverpool making a move in January.

He claims that the Reds are among 'top clubs' monitoring Danjuma but he will be staying in Spain.

Could Liverpool make a move in the summer?

A lot might depend on the futures of Salah and Mane.

Both are out of contract in the summer of 2023 and have yet to sign fresh terms.

But if neither have their contract situations resolved, the Reds may look to cash in rather than risk losing them for nothing the following year.

Danjuma could be an option but Villarreal would likely want to make a substantial profit on what they paid for him.

The former Club Brugge winger is under contract until 2026.
