FootballInsider are reporting that the 29-year old, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2023, would prefer to remain with the club but will explore other options if his demands aren’t met.

It comes just days after Jurgen Klopp admitted that they have “made no progress” in their attempts to tie the Egyptian down.

Salah has scored 28 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Reds this season, including 20 in the Premier League to make him the division’s leading scorer this season.

The same article states that the 29-year old’s preference is to remain at Anfield but a £500,000 per-week salary demand is proving to be a stumbling block.

Salah has been with Liverpool for four and a half seasons and his achievements with the club have established him as one of the very best forwards in the world.

The Egyptian has made 238 appearances in all competitions for the club and scored 153 goals.

He has won the Premier League, EFL Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the Reds and has played a key part in their success this season even after missing two months of action in January and February to his commitment to the Eqyptian National men’s side at the Africa Cup of Nations.

What did Jurgen Klopp say about Mo Salah’s contract situation?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp discussed Salah’s contract situation on Friday, prior to their Premier League match with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The striker scored from the spot in their 2-0 win over the Seagulls after Klopp admitted that they have made no progress in their discussions.

He said: “Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious and we are. It's Mo's decision.

“The club did what it can do, that's how it is. There's nothing to say about it, it's all fine.

"From my point of view, it's exactly like it should be in this moment in time and everything is said.

"Nothing happened further, so no signing, no rejection or whatever. So we just have to wait for that, it's completely fine.

"There is no rush in that situation."

Klopp was the manager who brought Salah to Anfield in 2017, paying a then club record fee of £36.5m.
