Alexander-Arnold is looking increasingly likely to sign for Real Madrid as a free agent but talks of his teammates penning new deals will be a huge boost for Liverpool after the summer.
Mohamed Salah close to signing a new Liverpool contract
The likes of Paul Joyce and Fabrizio Romano reported the news that Salah and Van Dijk are close to signing new terms with Liverpool. The Athletic’s David Ornstein provided a more detailed account of the news, writing on social media that the duo are ‘closing in on signing new two-year contracts’ at Anfield.
“Both players into final months of existing deals but breakthrough found in negotiations and fresh terms set to extend key pair at Liverpool until summer 2027.”

Van Dijk dropped a promising update after the Fulham defeat, finally confirming that there had been ‘progress’ in discussions. He also teased some information at a recent fan event, stating that he ‘wasn’t panicking’ over his situation and there would be news in the coming weeks.
Mohamed Salah could earn another major goalscoring milestone
If Salah commits to another two years at Liverpool and stay for the duration of the new deal, he is in with a massive chance of cracking an incredible Premier League milestone.
The Egyptian recently overtook Robbie Fowler as Liverpool’s highest ever goalscorer in the Premier League. With a stunning 27 goals on his tally so far this season, Salah is on track for another Golden Boot-winning season.

Alan Shearer’s stunning all-time record of 260 Premier League goals continues to look untouchable. Harry Kane was tipped to beat the tally before his move to Bayern Munich but left England on 213. Salah could well knock Kane off that second-placed spot if his upcoming two seasons are anything like what we’ve seen so far.
The winger still has time to score some more goals before the 2024/25 season ends, but even if he doesn’t, he needs just 30 more from two more seasons to leapfrog Kane.
The Tottenham legend has 213 to his name. With Salah on 184, he could become the Premier League’s second all-time highest goalscorer if he can hit 15 goals in each of the next two terms.

Hide AdThis is more than achievable for the blistering Egyptian, providing injury doesn’t impact his performances. Salah is already enjoying one of his best ever seasons with 32 goals and 22 assists in all competitions. Since his arrival from Roma, he has never failed to score more than 15 Premier League goals in a season.
Here is a breakdown of Salah’s goalscoring figures for each Premier League season at Liverpool.
2017/18: 32 goals
2018/19: 22 goals
2019/20: 19 goals
2020/21: 22 goals
2021/22: 23 goals
2022/23: 19 goals
2023/24: 18 goals
2024/25: 27 goals so far
Salah’s average is 22.75 Premier League goals per season. If he can hit this number in the coming two campaigns, he is forecast for 229.5 overall in the top flight, jumping ahead of Sergio Aguero (184), Andy Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208) and Kane (213).
