Liverpool are eight points above Man City in the Premier League table before they meet at Anfied.

Noel Gallagher has admitted he’s braced for Manchester City to fall further behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

The Reds currently sit eight points above the current champions in the table. City have won the past four crowns yet a run of three successive league defeats - and five in all competitions - means that Arne Slot’s side are in the driving seat after only 12 fixtures.

The gap between the modern-day rivals could extend to 11 points should Liverpool defeat Pep Guardiola’s side when they meet at Anfield on Sunday (4pm GMT). Oasis lead guitarist and primary songwriter Gallagher is a staunch City fan - but is preparing for the worst against the Reds given his team’s issues this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Gallagher was asked what he expects City to achieve against Liverpool. He replied: “Nothing. We never win at Anfield. The season has been so perverse, we’ll get beat tonight (against Feyenoord in the Champions League) then win on Sunday. “I don’t know what we’re going to get from City now. They looked relaxed and happy and then that happens. I’m not sure what we’ll get tonight and we’ve got to suck it up.

“They have turned into what we also are which is very consistent. The game is going to be great, City have got a point to prove, Liverpool if they beat us will think they; ’ve got half a hand on it. What I will say is we are very good at chasing. When it turns, we can sit in there. Eleven points, is it insurmountable? There is a lot to play for but I’m not heading there expected to win, I’d take a draw.”

There will be plenty of talk about Mo Salah’s future heading into Liverpool’s clash City. The winger is out of contract at the end of the season but confessed after the Reds’ 3-2 win over Southampton that he’s still to be offered fresh terms.

Salah has been in scintillating form this season, recording 12 goals and 10 assists in just 18 games. The Egypt international is eighth on the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer list (167) and while rival fans may hope he leaves Anfield, Gallagher in fact wants Salah to remain at Liverpool.

He added: “I’d like to see him stay. He is one of the best players we’ve ever seen in the Premier League. I think it is brinkmanship from both of them. I think he will stay. He’d be made to leave, where is he going to go, Saudi? I think he’ll stay but you never can tell.”
