Paul is promising fans a career-spanning set, including classic tracks from his former bands The Beautiful South and The Housemartins, alongside songs from his solo career and the new album.

So get ready for a back catalogue featuring the likes of Perfect 10, Rotterdam (Or Anywhere), A Little Time, Don’t Marry Her, Song for Whoever, Happy Hour, You Keep It All In and Caravan of Love.

He will be joined by his live band and vocalist Rianne Downey.

Paul has tasted chart-topping success five times previously during his career. Three No.1 albums came with The Beautiful South – Carry On Up The Charts (1994), Blue Is The Colour (1996) and Quench (1998).

A further two followed alongside former bandmate Jacqui Abbott – Manchester Calling (2020) and N.K-Pop (2023).

But Jenius has now given him his first No.1 solo album.

The title reflects Paul's typically modest style.

“If anybody ever calls me a genius,” he explains, “I always say, ‘What?! With a J?!’ The spelling would obviously be wrong.”

Fans who tuned into the BBC's Paul Heaton Night on Saturday, August 8, might beg to differ, with viewing figures topping 800,000.

Heaton is one of Britain's most successful songwriters, with around 15 million album sales. He first found fame as frontman of The Housemartins before forming The Beautiful South in 1988, while his songwriting was recognised with the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection in 2022.

Paul's songs span love and loneliness, pubs and booze, community and counsel, football and the state of the nation, all delivered with his distinctive voice, melodies and sharp lyrical craft.

Released 40 years after The Housemartins' debut album London 0 Hull 4, Jenius is his 23rd album and features 15 new original songs.

It was produced by Lightning Seeds frontman Ian Broudie at Blueprint Studios in Manchester and features Rianne Downey, who also performs with Heaton live.

His Neighbourhood Weekender headline set at Victoria Park, Warrington, will launch Paul's run of major UK and Ireland summer 2027 shows.

He will head to The O2 in Belfast on Friday, June 4, and Dublin's 3Arena on Saturday, June 5.

The tour also includes a Yorkshire date at AMT Headingley Stadium in Leeds on Saturday, June 12, where Echo & The Bunnymen, The Guestlist and Curiosity Shop will appear as special guests.

The announced dates conclude at Live at the Marquee in Cork on Saturday, July 3, with Lightning Seeds appearing as special guests at all three Irish shows.

Tickets for those 2027 UK dates go on general sale Friday, September 4, at 9.30am at www.ticketmaster.co.uk and www.gigsandtours.com. Tickets for Ireland will be available via www.ticketmaster.ie.
