These local institutions were recently visited by Ofsted inspectors.
Merseyside has a range of excellent primary and secondary schools, which have received ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ ratings. However, some aren’t doing quite as well.
9. Castleway Primary School (Wirral) - Requires Improvement
Published in January 2023, the Ofsted report for Castleway Primary School reads: “Pupils are proud of their school. Everyone is welcome and everyone is valued at Castleway. It is a vibrant and happy place. Pupils understand leaders’ high expectations of their behaviour and they make every effort to fulfil them. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), are polite, confident and articulate. They develop empathy for others and get on well together. Pupils understand the importance of treating everyone with equal respect, regardless of their differences."
10. St Anne’s (Stanley) Junior Mixed and Infant School (Liverpool) - Good
Published in January 2023, the Ofsted report for St Anne’s (Stanley) Junior Mixed and Infant School states: “Pupils at St Anne’s (Stanley) School thrive in a supportive and caring environment. Pupils understand the importance of responsibility. For example, older pupils said that they enjoy helping younger pupils, including children in the early years, to settle in well. The supportive relationships that staff have fostered with pupils help to ensure that children and pupils feel happy and safe in school.”
11. St Cecilia’s Catholic Junior School (Liverpool) - Good
Published in January 2023, the Ofsted report for St Cecilia’s Catholic Junior School reads: “Pupils enjoy attending this friendly and happy school. Leaders and staff know pupils well. They take care of all pupils, particularly those who need extra help and nurture. Leaders have high expectations of every pupil’s behaviour and achievement, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils strive to live up to the school’s values. They try hard to be ready, respectful and safe. Pupils behave well in lessons and move sensibly around the school buildings. Leaders deal with any bullying effectively if it occurs. Pupils said that they feel safe in school. They know that there is always an adult there for them if they have any concerns."
12. Wavertree Church of England School (Liverpool) - Good
Published in January 2023, the Ofsted report for Wavertree Church of England School states: “Pupils enjoy belonging to their happy school community. They said that in their small school, everyone knows each other well and everyone is accepted for who they are. Staff forge strong relationships with children when they join the school in the early years. This helps them to settle quickly into school routines. Pupils know that bullying is unacceptable. They said that if it happens, staff take it seriously and deal with any incidents effectively. Pupils said that there is always an adult in school whom they can trust and talk to if they are worried or upset. This helps pupils to feel safe."
