Aldi announced plans last September to bring a new store to Champions Business Park at the junction of Arrowe Brook Road and Arrowe Park Road in Upton.

The discount supermarket giant said it would be a £9m investment into the area and could create 40 new jobs.

The scheme includes 128 car parking spaces including eight disabled spaces, 11 parent and child and ten electric vehicle charging points.

Located on brownfield land, Aldi proposes planting and landscaping around the boundary of the store, and says the building itself will be “high quality” and “contemporary”.

The company says the supermarket would deliver “lasting benefits” to Upton. It added: “Local shopping options are currently limited to smaller convenience stores, which often offer limited ranges at higher prices. A new Aldi store would provide a more affordable and accessible alternative — helping households facing rising food bills.”

The plans have now been given the green light, gaining unanimous approval at a Wirral Council planning committee meeting on February 5.
