Aldi to invest over £6m in Merseyside including store extensions and new openings

Aldi is set to invest more than £6m in Merseyside this year, as it continues expanding across Britain.

The discount retailer with spend £6,195,000 in Merseyside, with the investment supporting upgrades to existing Aldi stores in the region, including extensions.

This forms part of Aldi’s £1.6 billion two-year investment programme announced last year, as the retailer works towards its long-term ambition of operating 1,500 UK stores.

Stores set to benefit include the site on Bebington Road in Bebington, Wirral.

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer, Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “As well as opening new stores, we’re also investing in existing ones to make sure everyone can get what they need from Aldi.

“By extending some stores, and by upgrading and improving others across the country, we can serve even more customers while creating better shopping environments for our colleagues and shoppers. Together with our new stores, that will mean more people can access Aldi’s high-quality products at unbeatable prices.”

Aldi’s plans for a new store in Upton were last week given the green light, gaining unanimous approval at a Wirral Council planning committee meeting.

The company says the supermarket would deliver “lasting benefits” to Upton. It added: “Local shopping options are currently limited to smaller convenience stores, which often offer limited ranges at higher prices. A new Aldi store would provide a more affordable and accessible alternative — helping households facing rising food bills.”
