Vitaliy Mykolenko will be announced as an Everton player after the January transfer window opens.

And Dynamo Kiev’s president Igor Surkis is delighted the left-back is making the move to Goodison Park.

The Ukraine international is set to become Rafa Benitez’s first signing for a major transfer since taking charge at Everton.

After spending just £1.7 million in the summer, Mykolenko will cost the Blues around £18 million.

It seems a matter of when rather than if the 22-year-old will be unveiled as an Everton player.

However, supporters are going to have to wait until the window officially opens on January 1 before that happens.

Speaking to Footballhub, Ukraine football reporter Igor Tsyganik said: “Official confirmation of Mykolenko’s transfer to Everton will come after January 1.

“Now, as far as I understand, the final stage of negotiations are underway.

“The clubs are very close to ending it all. The transfer fee for Mykolenko will be 20 million euros (around £18 million).”

Mykolenko represents Dynamo’s biggest sale since Andriy Yarmolenko left for Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for a fee of €25 million.

President Surkis feels a sense of pride that clubs in Europe are seeking out Ukrainian talent.

“I spoke with Igor Surkis, who is very glad that there is interest in Ukrainian footballers,” Tsyganik added.

“He confirmed that he promised players that, if they received worthy offers, he would give them a chance to prove themselves at other clubs.”
