Leeds and Sheffield United 'target' Everton player with just 180 minutes of action this season

The Everton defender has barely featured under Sean Dyche this season.

Everton defender Ben Godfrey is reportedly a target for both Leeds and Sheffield United, as well as AC Milan, according to the Telegraph's Luke Edwards.

Godfrey, who has played just 180 minutes across three appearances this season, has found himself out in the cold as he has failed to earn any substantial minutes in defence, despite his previous ability to be versatile across Everton's defence.

Edwards has opened up on Godfrey's situation, with his lack of game time giving hope to both Yorkshire clubs that a potential deal can be done as he revealed on the Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, via Leeds All Over: “So there are three options there. I would choose AC Milan all day every day. But I have a feeling this will come to a straight shootout between Sheffield United and Leeds United. It’s one of those debates which you can put yourself into as a football fan. These are three very different clubs, very different parameters, expectations and situations. I think it’s a brilliant three-way choice.”

The links to Milan are very scarce and come from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato. However, with Leeds pushing for promotion they could be looking to strengthen for the future it could be an attractive destination. Although, it's unclear if Godfrey would be happy to drop down to the Championship in any of these circumstances.

The strength and consistency of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite have meant Sean Dyche has not had to make any changes in the heart of his defence, while Vitalyi Mykolenko has been mostly superb in a defensive capacity and he also has multiple options at right-back which has meant Godfrey hasn't seen much action.

Last season saw Godfrey make 15 appearances across all competitions but his season was heavily disrupted by a broken fibula. Granted, he still made 10 Premier League starts but most of them came at full-back on either flank and with the addition of Ashley Young in the summer, Godfrey was dropped to last choice for all three defensive positions this season.
