Liverpool are set to face Brighton for the second time in a matter of days this weekend - but they could face a very different side.

There were changes aplenty when both sides faced off in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, as Arne Slot’s side won an exciting cup clash 3-2 at the Amex Stadium. Both sides are expected to bring key players back into the fold but Brighton potentially could have a secret ace up their sleeve.

Hürzeler revealed in his press conference that he could welcome back the £55m duo of Joao Pedro and star summer signing Matt O’Riley. The former has been injured for the majority of the season so far but he did manage two goals in four games, including a late winner over Manchester United.

Whereas O’Riley, who arrived for £25m this summer from Celtic, suffered an untimely injury in pre-season which has kept him out of action - until now. He recorded 37 goal contributions from midfield last season and was targeted by Chelsea, among others. He will add a new dynamic to their side and could pose Liverpool a new threat.

He also spoke on the player’s injury. "We didn't expect him to be back this quickly but we have great experts in our medical team. He's worked hard in rehab and he's a very good character. We're looking forward to having him on the pitch."

Speaking of their attack, Hurzeler was also quoted as saying that Evan Ferguson’s injury is "is not that bad" following Wednesday's game against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and he hopes he will also be available.

He has Pedro and Danny Welbeck as well but Ferguson would give him another option. He also expects Simon Adingra, who scored on Wednesday, to be "ready" to play again this weekend despite only just coming back from injury.

For Liverpool, they are still without Harvey Elliott, Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota but it is unclear if any other team news will be revealed when he speaks to the media on Friday.
