Liverpool transfer news: The former player has given his thoughts on the upcoming window.

Jamie Carragher has told Liverpool fans what to expect from the upcoming transfer window.

The Reds earned another victory to continue their fine run of form, beating Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday to remain on top of the Premier League table. They look set to fight it out with rivals Manchester City and Arsenal across the course of the season.

Arne Slot was only given Federico Chiesa as a signing for his squad this season despite reports of a midfield addition. Given they are pushing to win the title, an addition in January could be the mid-season shot in the arm that could tip the scales in their favour. Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Carragher gave his view on the window.

“They’re very much pushing [to win the Premier League title], as they were last season. We shouldn’t forget that,” says the pundit. They haven’t reinforced. It’ll be really interesting to see if Liverpool do bring anyone in in January. They didn’t bring too much in in the summer. And if they think they’ve got a realistic chance at the title and there’s a player that they feel fits their criteria, their model, I think they’ll pay the money to bring that player in.”

Martin Zubimendi was the name on everyone’s lips during the summer but Ryan Gravenberch’s form has quickly seen that interest fade away. He hasn’t signed a new deal at Real Sociedad which leaves the door somewhat ajar for a move in the future but it is unclear if anyone will arrive.

One of the main reasons why Slot has been able to transition into the role so effortlessly (Liverpool have won 10 of their 11 games this season) is down to the state of the squad that Jurgen Klopp left him with. With a quality spine (Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah), talented young players (Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and Trey Nyoni) as well as strong backups (Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez etc) it has been far easier to hit the ground running. Still, he will have a vision for what type of player he will want in his squad eventually but January may come too soon.
