Michael Edwards to RB Leipzig: Liverpool sporting director linked with move to Bundesliga club

Michael Edwards has been linked with a Liverpool departure in January.

It's being reported that the Reds sporting director could leave Anfield before his contract expires at the end of the season.

Sports BILD claims that RB Leipzig are hoping to lure Edwards to Germany.

Oliver Mintzlaff, who is Red Bull's global head of soccer, is said to favour Edwards taking up the role at the Bundesliga club and talks became more concrete a few weeks ago.

Edwards has also been mooted to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer.

He's been at Anfield for a decade and is said to want a fresh challenge, although discussions have been ongoing about extending his stay.

During his time on Merseyside, Edwards has been a vital cog in the Reds' recruitment.

He helped sign the likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Alisson Becker among many others.

Dominic King, of the Daily Mail, has reported that it is ‘not beyond the realms of possibility’ that Edwards puts pen to paper on a new contrat at Liverpool.
