Michelin Guide 2023: 12 restaurants in and around Liverpool listed in ‘foodie bible’ - with new entry

These are the best places to dine in Merseyside, as recommended by the dons of food critics.

The listings for the prestigious Michelin Guide 2023 are updated monthly and Merseyside has a new entry. Andrew Sheridan’s bistro OXA, in Oxton, joined the entries for September after receiving praise for its small plates, sharing dishes and excellent value lunch menu.

The relaxed dining restaurant opened in May on Rose Mount – formerly the site of Restaurant Fraiche – and currently features dishes such as stone bass with mussels and pickled fennel, and lamb with cauliflower, wild garlic and lamb fat carrot.

Sheridan said: “OXA has only been opened for a few weeks and so for it to be already listed by Michelin is incredible. I’d like to thank head chef Jake Smith and his team for all their hard work. We’ve recently changed our menu focusing on local seasonal ingredients, and feedback from customers has been brilliant.”

Last month, Sheridan’s flagship restaurant ‘8’ was added to the Michelin Guide after relocating the award-winning eaterie from Birmingham to his home city of Livepool.

The Guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few establishments, while it awards Bib Gourmands to choice eateries and recommends others.

There are now three restaurants near Liverpool with a prestigious Michelin star – with chef Tim Allen’s converted pub sō–lō winning the prestigious honour for this year, joining The Barn and Moor Hall.

Here is every restaurant in and around Merseyside to make the Michelin Guide for 2023 – and what critics had to say about them.
