Merseyside has a range of excellent secondary schools, which have received ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ Ofsted ratings, and Liverpool is no exception.
Osted is the regulatory body responsible for visiting schools across the country and grading them on a four-point scale. At the bottom of the scale is ‘inadequate’, followed by ‘requires improvement’, ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’.
Published in December 2018, the Ofsted report for The Academy of St Francis of Assisi reads: “The school is a vibrant multicultural community. Leaders have developed a culture in which all pupils are valued and supported to become thoughtful, considerate of others and hard-working. The trust shares leaders’ values. The trust, the two dioceses and the local governing body work well with leaders to drive improvement across the school."
6. The Studio School Liverpool - Good
Published in January 2019, the Ofsted report for The Studio School Liverpool reads: “The overwhelming majority of parents and carers who made use of Ofsted’s freetext service were very positive about the culture of care and support for pupils’ personal and academic development. One parent commented, ‘My child’s mental health and confidence have improved.’ Since the last inspection, some GCSE and A-level classes are now being taught across both the studio school and Liverpool Life Sciences University Technology College (UTC), with whom you share the building. You have worked closely with the principal at the UTC to establish clear lines of responsibility for pupils’ outcomes."
7. Holly Lodge Girls’ College - Good
Published in November 2019, the Ofsted report for Holly Lodge Girls’ College states: “There are many clubs and activities for pupils to engage in. These include a wide
variety of sporting clubs. Pupils also engage in a number of science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities both in school and out. Pupils are
encouraged to participate in trips both locally and internationally. For example, a
group of sixth form students went to Oxford University for an open day. Also, a
group of pupils went to Normandy on a joint French and history trip.”
8. Liverpool Life Sciences UTC - Good
Published in February 2020, the Ofsted report for Liverpool Life Sciences UTC states: “Leaders, governors and staff are passionate about helping pupils to become successful and active citizens. The school’s motto, ‘Every day is an interview’, promotes professional standards and high expectations. Many pupils with previous poor experiences of schooling flourish in a caring and supportive environment."
