Liverpool and Manchester United are both said to be interested in the 23-year-old defender

Premier League pacesetters Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunners to land highly-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in the January transfer window.

The Reds are in the market to find a long-term successor to experienced left-back Andrew Robertson, who struggled with form and fitness for large periods of last season.

The Scotland international is under contract at Anfield until 2026 and is still a highly valued member of Arne Slot’s squad, but has struggled to provide the same attacking output that he had shown a few seasons ago.

At the age of 30, Robertson is seen as someone that is approaching the twilight years of his career and Liverpool are keen to ensure that they have a ready made replacement signed in the near future.

Algerian international Ait Nouri has been admired by Liverpool for a number of seasons and has been identified as the type of player that is capable of adding an extra attacking dimension to Liverpool’s game.

The 23-year-old boasts an impressive record of three goals and two assists this season despite playing for a team that is struggling at the bottom of the table.

Ait-Nouri is blessed with incredible pace, pinpoint crossing accuracy and a desire to burst into the box and score crucial goals for his team. He possesses many of the qualities that once made Robertson one of the most feared attacking full-backs in the division and is still seen as young enough to develop into one of the very best defenders in the league.

Ait-Nouri has bags of Premier League experience with 110 appearance for the Old Gold, but is reportedly seeking a move away from Molineux, according to reports from Football Insider. The outlet explains that Ait-Nouri is keen to remain in England but is determined to play at the highest level possible.

The report adds that Wolves simply wouldn’t be able to keep hold of him if a suitable offer was submitted in January. FotMob adds that the left-back has an estimated value of around £30m, which would put him well within Liverpool’s price range.

Sun Sport understands that Manchester United are also admirers of the full-back as Ruben Amorim braces himself for a winter of huge change at Old Trafford.
