Liverpool residents shared their spooky experiences in some of the city’s ‘creepiest’ places.
Halloween is almost here and people across Liverpool will be booking spooky activities. But, local residents believe some parts of the city are genuinely haunted and terrifying all year round.
A Reddit post titled, ‘What’s the creepiest place you’ve ever been to in Liverpool? (serious)’, received hundreds of comments and it turns out that the city is pretty spooky - one user even recalled experiencing a time slip into Victorian times.
Sharing personal experiences with creepy buildings and parts of Liverpool, you recalled scarey encounters dating from decades ago to the present day. So, without further ado, here are the sppokiest places in Liverpool, according to locals.
A Reddit user said: “I experienced a weird thing when walking down Church St. I was coming almost level with Basnett St when it suddenly went really still and quiet, I couldn’t see or hear anyone except for the Victorian horse drawn hearse that passed in front of me into the churchyard. It was so creepy and seconds later all hustle and bustle of Church Street was back... it scared me half to death! Apparently I’d experienced a time slip.” Photo: Getty Images
10. Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Speke
A Reddit user said: “Used to work days & nights as a cleaner at John Lennon Airport. The amount of ghost stories I’ve heard is unreal. Some of the ones I’ve heard include an old fashioned pilot smoking a cigar in the Kissing Gate after the airport was closed for the night (reported by one of the Kissing Gate staff - apparently they disappeared after she looked away). Another one I’ve heard is that there’s a little girl in the Easyjet end of the airport that likes to lurk around, especially near the disabled lift half way up. Always got the creeps down that end at night. There’s a hand print in the lift near gate 11 that keeps reappearing at random times, and the lift seems to have a mind of its own. Apparently the basement level used to be a nursery and cleaners have allegedly seen lights down there and even heard a kid laughing.” Photo: calflier001/Wikimedia Commons
11. Wavertree Botanic Gardens, Wavertree
A Reddit user said: “There are tunnels under Botanic Park in Wavertree. What made them scarier was the fact some artist sketched images of all the people who would take shelter there during WW2. I was less scared imagining a leather face encounter! Absolutely terrifying place with eerie corridors that lead nowhere. Definitely not for the faint-hearted!” Photo: User Rept0n1x/Wikimedia
